Adrenal Saliva Test

The adrenal glands are located on top of the kidneys. They produce hormones that are essential to your health and well-being. Cortisol is secreted by the adrenal glands and is called the “stress, energy and weight gain” hormone.

A Normal Cortisol Cycle:
Cortisol should be highest in the morning to help you start your day.
Cortisol should drop slightly around lunch.
Cortisol should drop a little more around dinner to help you wind down from the day.
Cortisol should be the lowest at bedtime so you can have a restful sleep.

When your adrenal glands are working properly and cortisol levels are in a normal cycle, stress is handled better, the mind is clearer, weight loss occurs easier and energy levels are normal.

If the cortisol level is  elevated all throughout the day or night by “stress” or other conditions, this is called, chronic stress”, or “overactive adrenals”.  Some symptoms of overactive adrenals are: weight gain,  brain fog, confusion, hypothyroid, muscle wasting, blood sugar imbalances, insomnia, high blood pressure & constant immune challenges.

Part of our Adrenals Test is a High Cortisol Test.

Adrenal Fatigue ortired adrenals”occurs when the cortisol level is too low throughout the day. This can happen to people that are under severe emotional or physical stress.  People suffering from adrenal fatigue are simply “burnt out”. Some symptoms of adrenal fatigue or tired adrenals are  moodiness, fibromyalgia, arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression and  insomnia. People with adrenal fatigue may get a good night’s sleep but are still tired during the day.

Our Adrenal Saliva Test will tell you if you have “Overactive Adrenals” or “Tired Adrenals” and then our practitioner will help you feel better.

DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is another hormone produced by the adrenal glands. DHEA is the major precursor of testosterone and estrogen. DHEA becomes active at puberty and then decreases after age 30. DHEA helps the growth and repair of protein tissue and muscle.  Low DHEA levels can lead to adrenal fatigue, bone loss, reduced sexual interest,  muscle wasting, depression and joint pain. Part of our Adrenal Saliva Test is a DHEA Test.

Gliadin Antibodies: The gliadin (or gluten) antibody measurement detects grain intolerances. Sometimes grain intolerances can affect inflammation and cause adrenal fatigue or overactive adrenals.

Secretory IgA (SIgA): This test is for mucosal immunity (leaky gut), which is a stress impact biomarker. SIgA values are sensitive to increased cortisol/DHEA ratio and sympathetic tone.

Insulin: (Fasting and postprandial insulin measurements.) The insulin part of the test  looks for insulin resistance, functional insulin deficit (Pre-Diabetes) and hypoglycemia.  It is easier to lose weight when insulin and blood sugars are in optimal range. Part of our Adrenal Saliva Test is an Insulin Resistance Test.
