PMS is a “Physically based, not a psychological condition.

PMS occurs in women during their estrogen active years and starts one to two weeks prior to menstruation. Women suffering from a PMS hormone imbalance can have several different symptoms . There actually are 150 different PMS symptoms. Premenstrual Syndrome symptoms start 7 to 14 days before your period begins.  All of the symptoms usually stop after your period begins and women can remain symptom free until two weeks prior to their next menstrual period.  PMS is a common health problem that effects 33%-50% of all women from age 20-50.  PMS symptoms tend to worsen as a women ages.  As a teenager maybe your PMS symptoms were not a concern, but as a woman now in your 30’s or 40’s your symptoms are more severe.

One day you may feel totally “in control” and are happy and getting along with everyone…but the next you may be feeling anxious, getting too easily frustrated with the children, arguing with your spouse or friends over the tinniest problems, craving sweets and suffering from terrible “brain fog” ……………that is called “PMS”

PMS can be disabling: Some women’s PMS (Pre menstrual tension) may interfere with some or most aspects of their life. About 14 percent of women between the ages of 20 to 35 become so affected that they must stay home from school or work.

Possible causes of PMS: Changes in the balance of estrogen and progesterone may be one of the causes of PMS symptoms.  One hormonal change during the month can cause one symptom while another hormone change can cause a different symptom.  Other causes of PMS may be estrogen or progesterone deficiencies or elevations, Vitamin or mineral deficiencies, poor essential fatty acid metabolism, low serotonin, poor diet, food allergies, mal-absorption, or glucose imbalances.

PMS Symptoms: anger, bloating, acne, anxiety, brain fog, breast swelling, crying spells, fits, depression, food cravings, fatigue, forgetfulness, dizziness, headaches, sleep problems, acne, stomach aches, swelling, mood swings, weight gain, heart palpitations and more.
