Thyroid Blood Spot Test

Capillary Blood Spot Testing for bio-available hormones requires a little  blood from an easy finger prick  Blood spot testing gives you the same results as serum tests, without the cost and inconvenience of conventional blood drawing. Our Home Thyroid Test makes it convenient for you to test your thyroid  hormones.

The thyroid is a small (25 grams) butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of the throat.  The thyroid hormone controls energy,  metabolism (weight loss) and oxygen utilization.

Our Thyroid Blood Spot Test checks for “Bio-Available” TSH, T3, T4 and  Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPO)

TSH Test: (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) TSH is not actually a thyroid hormone; it is produced by the pituitary gland and stimulates the thyroid to make T4 and T3. When TSH is high it means the thyroid is under active and it needs to be stimulated. When TSH is out of range it is very important to also look at T3 and T4. Low TSH indicates Hypothyroidism and High TSH indicates a Hyperthyroid.

Symptoms of Hypothyroid: fatigue, feeling cold, weight gain, depression, brain fog, hair loss, constipation, dry hair, puffiness especially in the face and eyes, slow heartbeat, dry skin, heavy menstrual periods, brittle nails.

Symptoms of Hyperthyroid: anxiety, irritability, insomnia, bulging eyes, fast heartbeat, sweating easily, feeling warm or hot all the time, heat intolerance, weight loss, irregular menstrual flow, irritable bowel symptoms.

T3 Thyroid Test:(triiodo- thyronine). The thyroid gland makes a small amount of T3, only about 20% of what the body needs.  The rest of the T3 it comes from the liver where T4 is converted into T3. T3 is more powerful than T4 and is destroyed much more quickly. T3 lasts for only a few hours in the body.  Low T3 is another indicator of hypothyroidism.

T4 Thyroid Test:( L-Thyroxine) T4 should be the most abundant of the thyroid hormones and works with T3 to regulate metabolism. T4’s main purpose is to convert to the active hormone T3 in the liver. Many thyroid medications  only support TSH and not the T4-T3 conversion. That is why some people do not feel better on certain thyroid medications.  In these cases the T3-T4 conversion needs to be supported. T4 lasts for a few days in the body.

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPO): a positive result indicates Hashimotos Thyroiditis.

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is an autoimmune thyroid disease caused by inflammation of the thyroid gland. The immune system is actually attacking and trying to destroy the thyroid gland.

Many practitioners believe that if a thyroid test result is within “ normal” Thyroid Test Ranges then the thyroid is working optimally. We do not agree. We feel that a “borderline” hypo or hyper thyroid result should be monitored and supported so the person can feel their best!

Along with your thyroid blood spot test  results,  you will receive a  personal protocol from our practitioner to support optimal thyroid function.

*Currently our Saliva Home Test  Kits do not include a Thyroid Saliva Test. Thyroid testing is currently being done by the standardized method of Thyroid Blood Spot.
